We’ve gotten a lot of questions about these fabulous organic herb and salt blends from ALLSTAR Organics. And to answer you, yes! We do plan to have some goods like this from ALLSTAR available in our online storefront in the future - stay tuned!

And to address the other side of that question...yes, it was in place of veggies in our recent FEED Bin builds and this is important because it represents two challenges facing our North Bay Area food system:

1. Winter crop production has much room for growth in our community. Your participation in the local food economy will help to make this need known and contribute to growing the solution.
2. Our farmers need diversified revenue streams, because as the last year has taught us, you can’t put all your eggs in one financial basket. Value added products like these organic herb salts help our farmers to build their business and diversify in order to help them stay afloat in crisis and in stability.

From our Producers :: Field Notes

Suncatcher Farm is a diverse vegetable farm located on 10 acres in west Petaluma. Farmers Bree and Patrick have been managing the land for the past 3 years, they are a husband and wife team running every operation of the farm from field prepping, seeding to planting to weeding and harvesting.

After working on a few different farms throughout the county, Patrick and Bree had the opportunity to start managing the land that is now Suncatcher Farm. They take an approach to farming that aims to balance the ideals of natural farming with the use of mechanized cultivation. Bree and Patrick are passionate about growing high quality produce while building and supporting relationships with the local ecosystem.

FEED Sonoma has always been an integral part of their farm, buying and distributing their produce to local restaurants and grocery stores around the bay area. The FEED bins have been an opportunity to get more of their vegetables onto the plates of people in our community. In 2020 they opened their farmstand to the public which has allowed people to purchase fresh vegetables directly from their farm.

Bree and Patrick have temporarily closed their farmstand and have been selling less to FEED as they await the arrival of their new baby. In the summer you will see vegetables such as red butter lettuce, red romaine, shishito peppers, melons, early girl and heirloom tomatoes, carrots, kale, and much more. Further into the fall and winter months they plan to be harvesting potatoes, winter squash, kale, chard, broccolini, turnips and many other hearty winter veggies.

This dry winter has kept them busy filling up their greenhouses, prepping field space, and seeding/ transplanting in their high fields in hopes for an early spring harvest.
