West County Community Farm
West County Community Farm is nestled on the sandy loams of the western edge of the Laguna de Santa Rosa in Sebastopol, CA. They grow eight acres of over 200 varieties of fresh vegetables, cut flowers, culinary herbs, strawberries and specialty crops like popcorn and Jack-O-Lantern pumpkins.
They use regenerative practices like annual cover cropping, ample compost applications, biodiverse insectary plantings, and the active planting and stewardship of oaks and perennial hedgerows surrounding their fields to tend the farm in a way that gives back to the soil and the ecosystem they depend on.
Kayta and David Plescia met as apprentices at Caretaker Farm in Williamstown, MA in 2012 and moved to Sebastopol in 2013 to farm with draft-horses at New Family Farm. David spent 3 seasons at New Family Farm while Kayta founded the farm at Russian River Vineyards in Forestville.
They founded West County Community Farm in 2017 with the intention of building a CSA in West Sonoma County modeled after East Coast style CSA's emphasizing farm access, participation, and u-pick crops. FEED Cooperative is a vital partner allowing them to offer their wares to a wider region.
Farms can foster diverse soil biology and sequester carbon; they can be home to healthy, thriving, diverse ecosystems — all while bringing abundant food to our tables. Their goal is to share this delicious reality with you!
